Elder Training: In Memorium

Bob Jones
June 5, 1938- February 26, 2006

One event in our church that happened while I was in officer training was that Bob Jones, one of our deacons who was in training to become an elder, passed away. He collapsed at the church after worship while we were moving the chairs in the sanctuary and...he was gone.

I often sat beside him during our officer training and appreciated his insights. I could go on and on about how highly I thought of him - and I think even more highly now because of what I've learned about him after his death. He read all the books and articles we were supposed to read over a few months in the first week. We were both in the choir and I often saw him at the men's Bible study Thursday mornings. I miss him, and I'm sad that I did not get to serve on the Session with him.

And yet, I know that for him to die was gain.
